UPCOMING DIOECESE EVENTS & CONVENTIONS:
UPDATED 03/14/2020

History of St. George Coptic Orthodox Church, in Daytona Beach, FL

St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach, FL was in 1985 by Fr. Ghobrial Abdelsayed among a group of 5 families.  These families were served by 3 different priests until His Holiness Pope Shenouda’s visit in October 14, 1989 and his promise to his sheep for ordaining a priest to them.  In 1990, Father Isaac Bassily was ordained by H.H.Pope Shenouda III as a priest of the immigrant land, and the Daytona Beach community.  The church was consecrated by His Holiness on March 2, 1991.  This was the second visit by His Holiness to our church, and we were later blessed with a third visit in 1997 to consecrate the baptismal and icons of the church.

The church was also blessed with Bishop Youssef as a general bishop in October 1993 who carried out the first priest meeting for a group of 10 priests at St. George Coptic Orthodox Church.

The construction of the church was split into five phases ...
Phase I: change of the layout of the church from Seventh Day Adventist to a Coptic layout
Phase II: creation of altar, deacon seating area, iconastasis, icons, and windows
Phase III: construction of St. Abanoub’s chapel and baptismal
Phase IV: first expansion of the fellowship hall, purchase of several homes adjoining the church, church roof, and new internal dome, purchase of Theotokos Land
Phase V: second expansion of fellowship hall, construction of Sunday school rooms, conference rooms, and house demolition and creating a paved parking lot
Phase VI: In progress
